Would you describe "mess inside"?
Mouse droppings? Wiring chewed? Parts loose or apparently missing? Wiring unplugged? Or just filthy'?
Always start by making sure the machine is unplugged.

Sounds to me that you have a key, by chance fits---just doesn't turn. Do a search (top right of page is the search block) on how to de-pin the lock. Most of us don't recommend quarters for various good reasons.
However try a thin piece of plastic, maybe a small zip tie, on the track that the token rides. When your trial works clean the track with alcohol & a Q-tip then use super glue e.g. to keep it in place. Retest.

Are you using tokens or quarters?

I tend to lookup a machine by name so it is quicker to pick a letter on the sideways bar than to scroll up & down. I like the old style Machine Database also but if had to pick one, it would be the newer.
