A new look for the machine database
A while back I was working on new look for the database page. I wanted to freshen it up to make it look like it fit in with the rest of the site without changing the basic layout.
Over on the left hand side of the site (non-tapatalk users only) you will notice a new menu item "New Machine Database". While I left the old one there for now just in case there are some bugs in the new pages. There are a few things I may want to add. If you have an issues then let me know.

These are my opinions and just because I am the admin you don't have to agree with me

Re: A new look for the machine database
I do prefer the way the Older Database shows a picture of the machines when you search by the Year or Manufacturer. The New Database only shows a list of names.
At times, when I'm searching for a machine, I only know what it looks like and I'm searching to find the name of the machine.

Re: A new look for the machine database
I tend to lookup a machine by name so it is quicker to pick a letter on the sideways bar than to scroll up & down. I like the old style Machine Database also but if had to pick one, it would be the newer.
To play or not to play, that is the question.

Re: A new look for the machine database
I do like the "pick a letter" feature and the overall look of the new format. Not having the picture of the machine displayed, along with the name of the machine, after picking a year or manufacturer will be missed.
The machine picture wouldn't need to be display when picking a letter. More than likely, you already know what machine you are looking for.
But, searching by the year or manufacturer you probably don't know the name, or you would of "picked a letter" to search for it. Without a picture being displayed, you will need to click on every machine to find the one you are looking for.
For a New or Occasional Use Member, not knowing what machine they have, it would be so time consuming clicking on each machine name to find the correct one. But, by having a picture displayed, (as it is in the Old Database), they could visually find their machine.
It is a feature in the Old Database that shouldn't be omitted in the New Database.

I will see what I can do. Now that the holidays are over I may have a little more time.Wayne-O wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2017 12:44 pm

What about an icon next to the machine that you can mouse over or click on to see the machine? If a machine has more than one machine version it will show multiple icons? I understand the need for the images but I was trying to speed up the load time as the database is quite huge now (thanks to you Wayne).

Re: A new look for the machine database
At this point an icon seems like a reasonable compromise. Does just having enlargeable icons improve the load time?Chris wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2018 9:35 am What about an icon next to the machine that you can mouse over or click on to see the machine? And:
"the database is quite huge now (thanks to you Wayne)"
Goody Wayne is the DB 'Bad Boy' now---no longer me

Well. I guess that's okay.
